The last thing you want (or deserve) is a leaky roof.
I think every mom knows that running a household is in many ways like running a small business. It’s a lot of work under the best of circumstances. Then just say the world implodes. And the home literally becomes a professional office for a family of five, each with independent career obligations.
That’s a bad time to have your roof leaking. Ask Staten Island resident Kathy McQuillen:
“We’ve been in the house 22 years and the siding has probably been on this house 30 years, so we really needed some renovations. One window was rotted, our back roof was leaking, and our siding needed to be replaced.”
“It really should have been done probably years ago,” Kathy says. “The roof was leaking for a while. We wanted to get it done sooner. … But like so many other things, it got done when we were able to get it done.”
Home renovations are an easy thing to procrastinate on, and part of the reason is the potential stress of getting multiple bids and finding the right contractor for the job. Kathy started researching online and requesting estimates around late February. Regardless of timing, you never really know what you’re in for when you begin requesting bids on a home renovation project.
“Some people came in to give us estimates, but when B&B Siding came in, they just blew all the others away,” Kathy recalls.
“When Kamil came he took his time, he walked around the house with us, we told him exactly what we needed and wanted. And then he wrote up a contract, came and sat down with us with a computer and walked us through the whole process. He had samples. He didn’t seem like he was going to bang us over the head with pricing.”
“And we were actually pleasantly surprised with what it was going to cost. You’re talking about a whole house being redone with siding and capping all the windows.”
Additionally, Kathy’s home needed a new back sliding window, two double-hung windows and a whole bay window.
The McQuillen’s also took the opportunity to enhance their home’s appearance with a new architectural element.
“Because we have a Cape Cod House, we wanted to add something to it where we wouldn’t need an architect,” Kathy says. “They came and built the portico, which is beautiful.”

When timing really, really matters …
A half-finished siding or window job can really leave homeowners in an uncomfortable, exposed situation. In this case, the potential for things to go wrong was substantial because the Covid-19 shutdown had begun.
Fortunately,
a) B&B Siding Contractors is an essential business, and
b) Our owner Kamil is always on top of things.
Here’s how it all played out:
“Kamil had originally told us it was gonna take three weeks for everything,” says Kathy. “But he was here on a Saturday. That Monday, Laurie from the office was calling me to set everything up and they were here that week. By the end of that week they were starting. Which was great because the whole Covid-19 had started and it was like, ‘What do we do?’ We had been having a lot of rain here on the Eastern Seaboard so there’s rain still coming in the house, you couldn’t open the window in the front, so it was becoming a nuisance.”
We got the whole project turned around ahead of schedule. It took about 10 days from the day work began through completion, creating as little disruption to Kathy’s routine as possible.
For our customers, our services are always essential
There’s almost no such thing as perfect timing. But for an essential siding and roofing renovation project, today is better than tomorrow, and tomorrow’s better than next week. Kathy and her family can breathe and sleep better now that their home is dry, beautiful and inviting.
“It stinks being stuck in the house, but it’s so nice to have all this new stuff done,” Kathy says. “You’re not sitting here going, ‘Oh my God, this has to get done, and that has to get done.’ It starts to get on your nerves. Every day you’re putting something on the floor in the back room to catch the water. It was getting to be a bit much.
“It’s nice to walk around knowing those infrastructure things done so we’re not worrying about it.”
“B&B Siding did an awesome job putting up the siding and putting the windows and door in. The house is a totally different color, it has the portico now, so it looks like a brand-new house.”
Kathy’s husband is an essential worker for the city, she’s transitioned to working from home, two of her kids are both working and attending college remotely, and her youngest is in high school. Like any family in this difficult time, they’ve got a lot on their plate. We believe people deserve to have things done right the first time, meaning it’s on-time, on-quality, and guaranteed workmanship.
That’s what we did for the McQuillens, and that’s what we’ll do for you if you need roofing and siding renovations.
Wishing you all the best,
B&B Siding Contractors
